An
estimated 80,000,000 American adults have one or more types of
cardiovascular disease (CVD). That means that approximately 1 in
3 adults have some type of CVD! Armed with this knowledge, the
Omega chapter of Phi Delta Chi decided to aim our window display
research at a topic that could affect all of these patients and
educate others who do not currently have CVD. Cardiovascular
disease is the progressive disease affecting both the heart and
the blood vessels.
Many problems are a result of atherosclerosis, or the buildup of
plaque (usually from high cholesterol) in the blood vessels.
This buildup may eventually cut off blood supply to the heart or
brain, causing a heart attack or stroke, respectively. Our hope
is that this website will better inform the public of
cardiovascular disease and explain some strategies that may be
employed to help lower cardiovascular risk.
